Wise Parenting Dos and Don’ts from 1886
Can’t imagine what 1886 was like (especially with kids), but this dude Thomas Hill seemed to be dialed in on the parenting front! Check out these timeless tips from his book, Hill’s Manual of Social and Business Forms:
What NOT to do:
Don’t be harsh or use disrespectful names.
Avoid profane or vulgar language around kids.
Don’t be so strict that your child avoids you.
Always tell the truth—kids learn from you!
Praise your kids when they deserve it.
Let them sleep in—kids need their rest!
Don’t scold them for well-intentioned mistakes.
Teach them the value of money—don’t just give it away.
Never punish in anger—it could backfire.
What TO do:
Speak pleasantly.
Teach them the value and dignity of hard work.
Explain your reasoning—they’re curious!
Discuss the dangers of bad habits.
Encourage good personal habits and responsibility.
Share your plans and ask for their input.
Make them your little business partners.
Teach them skills for a successful, happy life.
Steve Irwin
Crikey! Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was not just a fearless wildlife warrior but also an incredible dad. Known for his boundless enthusiasm and passion for animals, Steve’s legacy lives on through his family and their continued work in conservation.
Takeaway: Steve Irwin’s life is a testament to living passionately and instilling a love of nature in the next generation. He showed us that you can be a hero both in your work and at home. His legacy reminds us to embrace adventure and pass on our passions to our kids.
