What's good?

As we close in on the 100th Dad Day newsletter, I wanted to take a quick second. Whether you've been here since day one or just joined, seeing this thing grow has been awesome. Your replies, poll responses, and project submissions are what keep this train rolling.

Some exciting stuff brewing behind the scenes that I’m stoked to share in coming weeks.

Now, let's get into it.

📕 DAD WISDOM

On Apologizing…

Sometimes it might feel counterintuitive to apologize to your kids. Something deep inside whispers that it could undermine your authority and show weakness.

But what if the opposite is true? What if owning your mistakes is exactly how they learn to own theirs? What if admitting when you're wrong is how they learn to be right?

Kids don't need perfect dads. They need authentic ones. They need to see that making mistakes isn't what defines you - it's how you handle them afterward that matters.

So next time you lose your cool, miss the mark, or just plain mess up - give it a try. You'll be surprised at how much stronger an apology makes you.

BADASS DAD

John Krasinski AKA Jim Halpert

Before he was directing hit horror films or playing action heroes, John Krasinski was just Jim Halpert putting staplers in Jell-O. But becoming a father to his two daughters transformed his entire creative outlook.

"We can appear to be tough as nails, but guys have a level of insecurity and vulnerability that's exponentially bigger than you think," he confesses. This newfound vulnerability surfaced in his breakout directorial hit "A Quiet Place" - a film he crafted while wrestling with the fears of new fatherhood.

"If you don't take risks, you'll have a wasted soul," says the man who pivoted from sitcom star to serious filmmaker. But his biggest risk? Admitting he was unprepared for the realities of parenting. That honesty has become his superpower, both on set and at home.

While Hollywood's leading men often maintain stoic public personas, Krasinski's openness about fatherhood's challenges has made him relatable to dads everywhere. "Family comes first for me in every single way" - not just a line for interviews, but the principle guiding his entire career.

DAD TOYS

Your Next Pair of Shorts

Not the most exciting feature, but majorly clutch with spring on the horizon: Ten Thousand Session shorts. After picking up my first pair years ago, they've quietly multiplied in my drawer - for good reason.

Lightweight, breathable, and zero unnecessary bells and whistles. These are built for running and high-output training, but honestly work for everything from yard work to beach days. They move with you, don't chafe, and hold up through years of washing.

Worth every penny IMO.

Eating At Night: Good or Bad?

Happy Jerry Seinfeld GIF

Good news for the late-night snackers: that protein shake before bed isn't sabotaging your metabolism after all.

Recent research put this to the test by having people eat most of their calories either early or late in the day. The result? Both groups lost the same amount of weight. Your body doesn't suddenly start storing everything as fat after 8pm.

Even consuming protein right before bed didn't impact metabolism or hunger the next morning. If anything, that bedtime protein might actually support muscle recovery if you're training regularly.

The only real concern? Eating too close to bedtime can mess with your sleep quality. Aim to finish your last meal 2-3 hours before hitting the pillow.
